An Introduction to the Turning Point Series
The selection of articles and commentary for this series is a collaborative enterprise—in the spirit of Section V's heterogeneity, its comparative, inclusive and integrationist approach. Turning Point papers are being selected from all of the psychoanalytic points of view. Some of the papers will be the ones that everyone knows. The commentary on these will bring a fresh perspective and put them in context both of their importance to the author's entire corpus of work and psychoanalytic thinking as a whole. Mixed in with these will be papers that perhaps have not received as much attention but which nevertheless bring a significant new dimension to psychoanalysis. As editor, I have been seeking and receiving suggestions for both commentators and articles to be commented on. In the case of the former, I have been asking the commentators to look to their own specialization and select a paper that has had a special importance to them. In the case of the latter, we are looking at articles on contemporary Freudian technique, articles that have reshaped the psychoanalytic understanding of development, articles that represent state-of-the-art Interpersonal, Self Psychological, and Relational thinking. We will try to have a new turning point paper as often as possible. Our aim is to make the turning point series exciting, to provide serious scholarship but also to be experimental, informal and challenging. If you have any ideas or interests, e-mail or send me a smoke signal.
