Biography for E. Lisa Pomeroy, Ph.D.

Regional Representative, Western Region

For nearly thirty years I have been a licensed California psychologist, I am also a licensed psychologist in the state of Virginia. I received my training and am faculty at the Los Angeles Institute and Society for Psychoanalytic Studies (LAISPS). I am teaching fourth year candidates "Object Relations" and am a member of the International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA). I presented a paper, "Real Child Abuse or False Memory?" at the International Psychoanalytical Association Congress in Santiago, Chile, and I am presenting at the 2003 Spring Meeting. I was the Co-Chair of the Independent Psychoanalytic Societies (IPS) 2002 La Mancha Clinical Conference in Palm Springs.

I have been elected as a Division 39 Member-At-Large, President of Section VI and on the Section III Board. In 1998 I was President of Section III and was the founding Co-Editor of the Section III Newsletter. I was also the Representative to the Section IV Board and President, Southern California Chapter, Division 39. I was the Division 39 Liaison to the APA Committee on Aging. I am President currently of the Psychoanalytic Research Society (APA).

The Healing Foundation Psychoanalytic Treatment Programs, including The Healing House are directed by me. I was a Fellow, Reiss-Davis Child Study Center; Director, USC Adult Counseling Center; Chief of Psychology, Westwood Hospital; Clinical Director, Edgemont Hospital and NU-Med Medical Center; and Vice President, Western States Psychiatric Institute. I was also a CAPP v. RANK plaintiff.

I received the CAPP outstanding Psychologist award and have been a Board Member of Mothers Against Sexual Abuse. I have presented over 30 papers nationally and internationally. For thirty years I have been in private practice treating post-traumatic stress disorders, child abuse, high-functioning autism and other primitive mental disordered patients in psychoanalysis or psychoanalytic therapy. I was a founding member of the Group for the Advanced Study of Psychosis, Borderline and Narcissistic Disorders.

  • My greatest achievement, I believe, was in founding and running the Healing House, a psychoanalytic therapeutic community offering treatment to patients in psychoanalysis with LA analysts during times of crisis or with hard to treat patients.
